Houston doesn’t have 4 seasons, we have like 12,
the “Winters” shouldn’t really be considered winters, it’s more like a harsh
fall. Now that the weather is sunnier, the humidity will start to creep up and
the brief rains to come will bring life back into our yards. However, with
those changes, that also means your HVAC system needs to change from our short
winter break into the next Summer. Although other parts of Texas enjoy rather
moderate winters, some of our chillier nights do call for us to turn on the
heat. Now that the nights and days will start to get warmer, ensuring your
heating and cooling system can smoothly make this transition is important.
Whether you have an older AC unit or a brand-new system, getting regular
seasonal maintenance can help secure a longer lifespan or catch any problems,
before they occur. Air Technology Air Conditioning and Heating, LLC is your
local source for quality cooling and heating needs in Houston and the
surrounding areas. Our team can and will provide all the Spring HVAC insights
you need!
SPRINGTIME HVAC CARE:
Here are some basic
steps you can take to prepare your system for our short Spring into Summer:
Check and replace your air filter – This is important after your heating system has been used more recently due to those chillier winter days. Make sure you inspect your filter regularly and replace it as necessary (typically on a 1 to 3-month basis depending on the filter). You may even want to have a spare air filter stored away, making it easy to stay on track with your air filter replacement. We have learned over the years, higher traffic homes, or homes with pets require a filter change monthly and vice versa, homes with lower traffic in and out and no pets make filters last a little longer.
Give your ventilation system a look – Also referred to as your home’s ductwork, the ventilation system is a crucial component of indoor air quality and airflow. If not cleaned regularly or properly, it can circulate dust and pollutants throughout your home. Make sure dusting the ductwork is on your spring-cleaning list! You can also check for holes, cracks, and other issues that may allow for loss of air.
Tidy up outside around your unit – We know the outdoor unit can be an eyesore, but you don’t want to crowd it. Clean away flowers, grass, and other plants get a boost of life back into your outdoor unit, it is a priority to make sure your outdoor HVAC unit isn’t obstructed in any way. From nature to your own gardening tools and other debris, there are many things to look out for. Make cleaning up your outdoor space around the unit, regularly checking for leaves or debris from yard maintenance a part of your spring-cleaning checklist as well.
Don’t forget to call on the professionals – Remember, right after our very short spring is Summer, which means you should take care of any tune-ups, maintenance, and replacements early into the year. The saying goes, “it’s never too late to start today.” especially now while the weather is still relatively moderate. If you wait until Houston’s beating summer heatwave, you could be stuck without any AC and we all know the heatwave that is to come could potentially be a regret waiting to happen. Waiting could also cause you to potentially face costly repairs for any problems left unrepaired.
